Global warming

There is no issue of our times more challenging to solve than the global warming. Its one of the most serious environmental problems that facing the world community. Global warming is a term used to describe the trend of increases in the average temperature of the earth atmosphere and oceans that has been observed in recent decades. This change leads to changes in rainfall patterns, a rise in sea level and a wide range of impacts on plants, wildlife and humans. When scientist talk about the issue of climate change, their concern is about global warming caused by human activities which increase the amount of greenhouse gases

Causes of global warming

There are various factors that cause global warming. Firstly, some scientists believe that global warming is caused by natural factors such as:
''Changes in the Earth's orbit around the sun
Explosions on the sun (sun spot)
volcanic emissions
changes in the Earth's orientation toward the sun
As the world evolves, changes in the earth environment affect climate in different ways. For example, volcanic eruptions can cause temperature to decrease because the smoke can act like umbrella and stop sunlight .also any slight change in the Earth's orbit could cause the earth to move closer or away from the sun. This will radically change earth temperature because it will become closer to sun (source of heat).
Human activities cause:
It may seem hard to believe that people can actually change the earth climate. But scientists think that people lead to an increase in the mount of greenhouse gases. After the industrial revolution, we began altering our climate and environmental through agricultural and industrial activities.
Before this revolution human activities release few gases but now through population growth, fossil fuel burning and deforestation .we are affecting the mixture of gases in the atmosphere .also the trash that we send to the landfills produce a greenhouse gas called methane. On the other hand, there are many human activities that cause global warming such as automobiles and coal-burning power plants. These activities produce greenhouse gases which are the main reason that made the planet warm up. Carbon dioxide (CO2) is the most significant green houses gas because factory smokestacks, automobile and other human activities produce 22 billion tons of Carbon dioxide in to the earth's atmosphere each year , while animal agriculture , manure and other sources produce 250 million tons of methane (Ch4) each year.
Greenhouse gases:
Many chemical compounds found in the earths atmosphere act as “greenhouse gases” .these gases permit sunlight to enter the atmosphere freely ,when sunlight strikes the earth surface .some of it reflected back to space and some of them is absorbed and trapped in the atmosphere .over time the temperature of the earth surface remain constant . But later the amount of greenhouse gases increase in air that lead to trap more heat in earth atmosphere. And some of this gases which caused by human activities are carbon dioxide, methane, cfcs nitrous oxide and ozone. This gases have special properties .they are transparent to visible wavelengths of light and they have strong absorption regions called bands .our greenhouse gases emission come mostly from energy use . These are driven largely by economic growth, fuel used for electricity.

Effects of global warming

There are many and various effects of global warming on human life and the environment. The primary effects of global warming are increasing average temperatures and Carbon dioxide rates and there are other secondary which will discussed in the next part.
Impacts on human health:
Human health is dependent on good environment .many of the factors that lead to a deteriorated environment also lead to poor health, such as pollution, inadequate water supplies and poor soil. Humans can adapt themselves to different conditions but sometimes extreme conditions are not tolerable. The main direct effect of climate on human themselves will be heat stress in extreme high temperatures that will become more frequent. Studies using data from large cities where heat waves commonly occur show death rates which can be doubled or tripled during days of unusual temperature. For example, Global warming causes extreme heat waves which caused in 2003 more than 20,000 deaths in Europe and more than 1,500 in India.
A further likely impact of climate change on health is the increased spreading in a warmer world. Many insect carriers of disease thrive better in warmer and wetter conditions. For instance, epidemics diseases such as malaria which carried by mosquitoes that live in wet, hot conditions.

What the individual can do?

Individual action can make a big difference to decrease the carbon dioxide level which is one of the global warming causing. People of the UAE can do many things to help the environment. One of the most important things that each one of us needs to think about is cars, especially in our country. In each house there are more than 4 cars and each one of the family members needed to go out in his car. To help the environment we need to think about going out in one car or even by bus. That will really help to reduce the carbon dioxide level. Another thing that the individual can do is plan trees. Trees are one good and easy way to help clean the environment. Also turn off unnecessary lights and replace incandescent light will make a difference. Cook with the microwave whenever possible and turn off the oven or stove is another way to reduce the heat level

Global worming and UAE

As we had seen before global warming is affecting the environment and human life in many countries around the world. Middle Eastern countries, including the United Arab Emirates also have been affected by global warming. The main effect is an increasing global average temperature. However, in the UAE, There are two major problems which are causing global warming. The first problem is desertification and the second one is dangerously high sea levels, which could rise by as much as 2.89 feet. Global warming also is destroying the Gulf's coral reefs. It also has created difficult conditions for marine fauna and flora.

What is learned from this project

In recent years, the climate has changed dramatically and become warmer. The Earth is suffering from heating. This is called Global warming which threatens our life in all aspects including health, food and environment.
Global warming is a serious danger world wide because of its harmful effects on human health and the environment.
In my opinion, I think humans should take responsibility to limit and reduce the effects of global warming. Therefore, all countries and all sections of the community must work together to find solution. Governments should invest more money in research and projects which look to save the planet
